Who should be forced to leave their friends, teachers & classrooms when bullying occurs?  The victim or the perpetrator?  Obviously, the perpetrator.  With many, many online school choices flooding the market, these troubled students could be removed from other children and still receive a great education.  Here in Washington State, as in most of the states, there are laws that offer parent choice in education.  There are even online public schools that provide an accredited program with accredited teachers that result in an official diploma from the state- not the regular GED that many homeschooling programs provide.  It is a great solution to a difficult problem, right?

But does this happen?  No.  In fact, the opposite has become the norm.  Parents of bullied students are flocking to homeschooling options- just to keep their students from getting beaten, being humiliated or committing suicide in their despair.  One would think that their school districts would bend over backward to ensure that these unfortunately children, already traumatized by violent bullying, got the best education possible under the circumstances, right?  Especially if it didn’t cost them any money or effort to do so.  Right?

YOUR kids succeed in public schools? Mine go to a private school! Get it? Get it?

“To help states, districts and schools that are ready to move forward with education reform, our administration will provide flexibility from the law in exchange for a real commitment to undertake change,”  Obama blithely proclaims!

Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Thursday that the emphasis (now) will be more on growth (I assume personal) than on test scores.

Real commitment to change? and emphasis on growth?  Is that like “saving jobs?”  No measurements needed America!  Just try hard and that is enough!  No wonder America’s test scores are so embarrassing that we have to jury rig them on the international scene.  Remember that fun commercial showing the Chinese guy lecturing the Chinese students and how he said that the Americans will work for China?  Remember how they all laughed?

Enough said. (more…)

American Children Are Learning To Be Ashamed of Their Country

Last night, cuddling with my 11, 10 & 7 year old kids, I asked some casual questions about school.  Specifically, history questions.  Some comments of theirs in the past bothered me and I wanted to delve into the matter a bit.  As I said on a previous post, “my antennae were wiggling.”  Needless to say, my antennae were working perfectly, as usual.  The Progressives have completely taken over all public schools.  They are teaching our children to be ashamed of their country.  Listen to this little conversation I had with my kids.  I asked the following questions:

Their responses killed me.  (more…)

Fox News Channel has just reported that a CA elementary school will begin classes for grades K-4 that teach ‘gender diversity’.  The supposed aim of this class is to help prevent bullying- specifically of those children who are homosexual or ‘tansgender’.   Bullying of gays should fall under the general bullying rules:  no bullying allowed for any reason.  It does not need additional billing in the bully department.     Parts of this class include statements such as, “It ok to paint your toenails if you are a boy,” “There is more than one way to be a girl and more than one way to be a boy,”  and “Sometimes a boy can be a girl inside and (more…)

I will never forget 9/11 as I stood, then sank to my knees as my heart exploded in my chest.  I was in my living room with my husband, my aunt & my uncle.  My baby girl was wandering around innocently, instinctively settling on my lap as we stood transfixed to the live coverage.   We all screamed when we saw the souls jump to their death.  We hugged and hugged, but nothing made it go away.  Seeing the people jump was, by far, the worst images I had ever seen in my life.  I, too, could hardly watch it and I still shake when I replay them through my mind.  Almost immediately, rage consumed the American street and the need for war, if necessary, was instantly validated.  The extreme patriotism of the following week rallied my heart as the country spontaneously hung American flags from their doorposts.  I couldn’t find a full size flag at any store.
