Politics…Nothing More Than God’s Plan

1 The words of the Teacher,[a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:

“Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”

“What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?

Generations come and generations go,
  but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises. The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north; round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.

7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from,
   there they return again.

8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.

9 What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

10 Is there anything of which one can say,
   “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time. 11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come will not be remembered
   by those who follow them.”

Ecclesiastes 1

God knew that the expulsion of Hagar and her son Ishmael (the ancestor of most Arabs today) in favor of Sarah and her son, Isaac (the ancestor of all Jews) would set up a jealous rivalry that would shape politics forever. The ball began rolling long before now, Friends.

Friends, politics is nothing more than the hand of God in action over the world.  There is nothing new under the sun.  The brutality of people today, the sexual immorality, the greed, the lies- the HUMAN HEART- it has never changed.  The words I have posted were written by King Solomon over THREE THOUSAND years ago.  And they are still true.

God GAVE the land of the Canaanites to the Jews. Yes, just like that. Was it fair? Irrelevant in God’s eyes. His purpose was larger than any appearance of fairness. The Jews were destined to have and to hold Israel forever. The ball rolls forward…

There is no hope for humanity- he saw that and wrote his lament.  The more you know, the more hopeless you see that we are.  Obama will probably win this Nov.  I’m not saying that in order for you to lose heart.  But because I believe it to be true.  Denying the probability won’t soften the blow if/when it comes.

Israel reigned supreme in Mesopotamia. King Solomon was given great wisdom. As the richest and greatest of Kings, he built the Temple- one of the true wonders of human accomplishment. But he also saw the utter uselessness of existance. Life has no meaning. He could only trust that God knew what he was doing.

Nothing in human history was done without God’s interference and without his WILL.  God has a plan that has nothing to do with human interests.  His plan is to create children- us.  I don’t believe God was finished with our creation when he made us.  I believe he fully intended Satan to tempt us and for us to fall out of grace.

Ezekiel & other prophets foretold of the Babylonian & Assyrian capture of Israel- no one believed them. It happenrd 80- 100 years afterwards. Some witnessed the destruction within their lifetimes. Israel had forsaken God and God decided to make them the most scorned and reviled people of the EARTH.  But God also promised a Messiah..the ball rolls on..

For this is the critical journey that will ultimately force us to CHOOSE God over Satan (and everything he stands for).  Love & faith for God with zero human ‘proof’ of reward- AND that reward is only to come upon our human DEATH?  Crazy.  OR Satan- with wealth, fame, glory- all here right on earth- to touch, to smell to KNOW.  Interesting choice God set up, right?  But he said that he made us in his image.  And what do we want most?  Think about it.  We want to be KNOWN for who we are and we want to be LOVED for who we are.  Not for who we pretend to be.  What good is the love of someone who THINKS you are something different?  What good is the love of someone who has no CHOICE but to love you?  God wants to be KNOWN by us and to be LOVED by us and to be CHOSEN by us.

God sends Jesus as the promised Messiah. He is rejected by the Jews- exactly as fortold thousands of years beforehand. New Christians are persecuted and thus, disperse to the rest of the world, bringing Christianity to the ends of the earth. The ball rolls on…

This, I believe, is why he made the heavens & earth- why he created Satan and why he sent Jesus.  He had humanity live without the hope that Jesus represents for thousands of years.  King Solomon, in his wisdom, came to understand the hopeless condition of MAN.

Ezekiel & other prophets foretold of the Jews regaining Israel. That it would be handed to them by the ‘kings of the earth’- but only after they had all been utterly destroyed w/ only a remnant surviving…the ball rolls on..

He didn’t know that Jesus would come to offer another way.  A way out of the meaninglessness of feeding our mouths & dying like animals.  Jesus came and described heaven and he described God.  And he offered us a way to reconcile the knowledge and hence, the craving for eternity that exists in every human heart with the intellectual knowledge that we will certainly die.

Once the most scorned of People and now a mere remnant, the ‘kings’ of the world simply gave the Jews back their Promised Land- Just as foretold almost three thousand years ago.  Although the League of Nations officially ‘created’ Israel, America was on the forefront of this political miracle. This set up the Christian American/ Jewish Israel relationship that guards Israel from Ishmael’s descendents (Arabs).  And it keeps rolling..

He revealed to mankind that life doesn’t end with our physical death.  In fact, he was resurrected with a new body to prove it!  His whole life and his whole message was to lift the despair that Solomon- and all of us- know, or suspect.  The craving monster that lies in the shadows of our minds that nothing makes sense.

God promised over three thousand years ago that once the now forgiven Jews regained their Promised Land, they would thrive and would never lose it again. But he also foretold of their Arab enemies coveting the newly prosperous land and wishing to take it by force again. The Arabs attempted to take the land in two major wars (the Yom Kippur War and the 6 day war). They lost in 20 days and in six days respectively.  Shamed an infuriated (just as they were when Ishmael lost to Isaac), the Arab hate grew.  And the ball rolls on…

That nothing has value.  That our lives- and everyone’s lives mean nothing.  Without Jesus, my friends, all things are pointless.  So don’t put too much stock in this election.  Or your job.  Or your marriage.  Or your kids. Or your money.  The only thing that you should truly set your hearts on is Jesus.  Just obey him.  Walk through life and obey him.  It is the only thing that has ever made sense in human history.

Three thousand years ago, the prophets foretold of a powerful political leader that would arise that would be charismatic at first and would fool the Israelites into trusting in him against their Arab neighbors. But that he would ultimately turn against all Christians and would utterly betray Israel.  That he would attempt to change the laws of the land and would try to combine the kingdoms into one- that he would rule.   That Israel would be invaded by their enemies and just when all seems lost, they will FINALLY call out to God and he will send Jesus back as the Messiah they can believe in.  Interesting, huh?  The ball is still rolling, my friends.  How many of you realize that it won’t roll much longer?  The days are numbered and Jesus is coming- soon.

  1. ‘…if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’ A couple elections ago, I determined to always vote for the more Godly man or woman regardless of experience or stance on any other issues. This may seem simplistic but we are to come like children. If all Christians would do this, each succeeding election would present us with even more Godly candidates. We know who wins. Why not be blessed rather than cursed. Although not perfect, Romney is clearly the more Godly man.
Keep up the great work…I am encouraged by you and have forwarded your blog to others!
May God continue to bless you and me!

  2. Thank you Little Rebel.
I’ve read the message of Solomon more than once. However, It has more meaning now than ever before. Jesus is the only answer.

    • Thanks, White. It’s been decades since I read any part of Ecclesiastes. Perhaps I never read the whole thing before. Before I wrote this article, I saw that Romney was attempting to deflect attention from his monumentally stupid mistake by trying to call himself the candidate of CHANGE. I knew at that point that his candidacy was dead. The phrase ‘nothing new is under the sun’ came into my head. I looked it up and found ecclessiastes. I read the whole thing and it spoke to me. Everything on earth is truly meaningless. Most people can’t bear to face this truth. But it is there- true, nonetheless. I saw God’s Plan so clearly then. He MEANT it to be a useless pursuit. Just feeding our mouths and toiling under the sun. And then dying like animals. God intended for life to be a thing of despair. In this way, when he sent Jesus, the world would truly understand that he was the LIGHT- the only light shining into the darkness of human existance. It got me excited for God and I found joy- even though I felt that Obama had won. The Bible is so profound for people willing to accept the truth within it and then search for the reason God did the things he has done.

  3. Acorrding to Christians, Mormans are not “Christian”, since they believe Joseph Smith to be a prophet, and the Bible states there will be no more prophets after Jesus. So, in terms of religion, you have our current President who “might” or “might not” be a Christian, then you have Mitt Romney, who you know for sure isn’t a Christian. How do you justify supporting him?

    • Ourchemicalkids,

I don’t support Romney. But I KNOW Obama must go. He is the most dangerous politician that has ever lived. I don’t know much about Mormonism. I’m not comfortable with it. But I have watched Obama for 4 years and everything he has done scares me. His goal is to destroy our nation as a sovereign one. His goal is to weaken our constitution. His ACTIONS define him- not what he professes to believe. Anyone can SAY anything. But our actions bear out what we truly believe. Romney is a basic unknown. I like that he has Ryan at his side. And I think he will have less freedom to destroy our nation due to the influences within his party. Believe me when I say that I am NOT a Republican. I am an independent who watches politics carefully.

  4. Jesus is the answer. The polls are so close. I still have hope that Romney will win the election. But regardless what happens this election our nation must say no to Satan and turn towards God. God Bless.

    • Hi Teresa, you are right. As a nation, we need to stand by God. But I’m afraid we haven’t. But in the end, it comes down to each individual, doesn’t it? Each of us must do the part we have been created to do. Mine is to be a watchman at the gate. Only you know yours. But as long as we are obedient to Christ, we will most certainly see each other on the other side! ;-D
