Here’s Another Shocker: There Really Are ‘Swine’!

Pigs were common in Jesus' day. He told us not to throw the Word at 'Swine'. Is this a place for God's Holy Word? No.
Pigs were common in Jesus’ day. He told us not to throw the Word at ‘Swine’. Is this a place for God’s Holy Word? No.

I have had some Christian friends say, “Shame on you!” when I said the following about Adam Corolla (a famous atheist):

Not my job to convert him. Jesus told us to TELL people about him. Not beg them. If they are foolish enough to turn down eternal life, Jesus also told us to simply shake our shoes off and take back our blessing of peace from them. Jesus is our KING. He has deigned to offer us a kingly gift- one from the goodness of his heart. He isn’t a beggar. In fact, he said to not cast our pearls to swine. Once a person denies God’s existence, they have officially become swine.”.

And yet, they claim to understand the concept of ‘not casting pearls to swine’I was called ‘lacking in compassion’ and ‘ failing to understand the true intent of Christianity’.

So, let us look at what ‘swine’ are in the Bible.  Because we know that Christ commanded us not to waste our time on them.

Matt 7:  6“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

In Luke, Jesus repeats these sentiments and explains that the reason the Apostles should take back their blessing of peace and shake the dust off their sandals is because the people to whom they were witnessing rejected God’s message.  There doesn’t appear to be much patience or second chances here, does there?

Luke 10:  1After this the Lord appointed seventy-twoa others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

5“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

8“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. 9Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’ 12I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.”

There is a direct relationship between cause and effect with God.  We do certain things and then God does certain things.  The Bible is clear that God has ZERO tolerance for those who would DENY him as God:

Romans 1: “18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, THEY NEITHER GLORIFIED HIM AS GOD NOR GAVE THANKS TO HIM, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 THEREFORE, God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 THEY EXCHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD AND EXCHANGED IT WITH A LIE, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 BECAUSE OF THIS, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just AS THEY DID NOT THINK IT WORTHWHILE TO RETAIN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, SO GOD GAVE THEM OVER TO A DEPRAVED MIND, SO THAT THEY DO WHAT OUGHT NOT BE DONE 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, GOD-HATERS, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”
———–

But BECAUSE OF YOUR STUBBORNNESS AND YOUR UNREPENTANT HEART, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”[a] To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, THERE WILL BE WRATH AND ANGER There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.

Jesus said that only those ‘lured by God’ would come to him.  He said only those ‘taught by God first’ could come to him.  Well, since the above passages clearly state that when a person DENYS that God IS God, he completely rejects them, hardens their hearts and sends them down a path of complete and utter depravity.  Somehow, I don’t think these are the people he is ‘luring’ to Christ.  These are not the people whom God has ‘taught first’.  These are first and foremost haters of God, himself.  They do not even get a chance at Jesus.  Again, some of you will scream.  But unless I got the wrong Bible, these are God’s words.  Who are you to change them?

Christian friends. If Jesus ordered us to never give up on people who are disrespectful to God, then who the heck are the ‘swines’ & ‘dogs’?  Whose house dust are we to to shake off our feet?   Whom shall we consider ‘unworthy’?   From whom should we take back our blessing of peace??

SWINE EXIST. Or Jesus wouldn’t have mentioned them!  Don’t speak on your own authority, Christian Friends. Speak on the authority of Christ.  I believe Christ said this because he knew that hearts who would not even acknowledge the Father could never be fertile enough to receive the Word of salvation from the Son.  Perhaps God mandated belief in him first because he knows that a person who will not love you should never be pursued.  If you pursue a lover who spurns you, they will surely run harder and further away.  Perhaps it is better to say, “Go then.  Your loss!”  Perhaps God knows that a position of strength is much better for the one running.  Because they might just turn around and wonder if they really are missing out on something special.  Perhaps.  But no matter.  He said them.  We obey them.

First, the person must acknowledge and fear the Father, then the Son.  I’m willing to take him at his word.

Friends, there are many, many who hunger for the word of the Lord. Those who WILL not accept them are not worthy of further attention. I didn’t say that, Jesus did.  Jesus told us to go out and TELL people of his magnificent gift- not beg them to take it.  The harvest is MANY, the workers are FEW. We need to use our energy and time wisely. Those who despise God before they even despise Jesus are lost.  They are the swine.  They are the dogs.  The verses above prove that.

If YOU want to continue with them, you go ahead. Me? I think I’ll take God’s word for it. Too many other hungry souls who need attention.

  1. Susan,
Another excellent post. Yeshua’s main purpose on earth was to talk about and spread the “Good News of the Coming Kingdom of God.” He told the people to repent and turn away from their sinful, earthly ways, and to follow himself in order to discover the kingdom. Unfortunately, this “Good News of the Kingdom of God,” is hardly ever heard about by contemporary preachers, ministers and priests, no matter what religion.

As followers of Yeshua, we are to do the same today and tell people to repent and seek the Kingdom of God. If upon hearing the word, they thirst for more information and become believers, Wonderful. However, if the choose to reject this, it is not our job “to beg them”, as you so aptly put it.

This is what was fundamentally wrong with Roman Catholicism during the times the Spanish Conquistadors came to the new world in search of gold, the fountain of youth and other treasures, accompanied by their priests. The priests job was to talk about and tell the native population about Christ, NOT to FORCE conversion on the people, or face death. This is but one example of so -called Christianity forcing people to become believers. Same thing happened to the Native American Indians. The preachers came and forced them to quit believing in their own spirituality, even though they believed in the Creator, in their own way.

Did Jesus Christ ever once say to convert the non-believers upon pain of death? Heavers forbid, NO. That is another religion’s doctrine, NOT true CHRISTIANITY.

Rest assured, the Lord knows his own, as the Shepard knows his sheep. God will not lose any who are truly His own.

  2. What if being compassionate means allowing them to see the effects of their own sin? What is we didn’t soften the warnings of consequences laid out by Christ so they may see their sin and repent in the future? What if being kind is telling someone the very truth their ego doesn’t want to hear — for it sets them free? There is a place in the Kingdom of God for hardness and it may appear unloving, but its far from it.

I believe the belief that always living by other peoples’ feelings is kindness, is…false. I would suggest it is those feelings ( that stems from an ego which comes from a hardened heart) are taking people fully into a path of destruction. Catering to these feelings is just unkind, but telling them the truth of the situation is the kindest thing you could do for them.

    • grycer, I totally agree. That is why I wrote my article yesterday. People love to question God’s Word and those of the Living Word, Jesus. They think they know what kindness and compassion are and that they need, somehow, to cover for their embarrassing God. Not so. God knows exactly what we need. When someone won’t love you, should you pursue them? No. It will only make them run faster and further. Better to say, “leave then. Your loss.” THAT actually might turn them around and wonder why you think you are all THAT! lol!

  3. I am not contending with God’s Word at all. I believe that there are some chosen, and not chosen. Those who die in their arrogance and defiance are doomed to hell, where there are no second chances.

However…I would not like to be too hasty in writing off certain people, just because they didn’t accept Christ the first time they heard about Him. There are many, MANY testimonies of Christians who denied Jesus, laughed at him, several times, even for many years before they finally surrendered to him. Look at Paul! A blasphemer, murderer, God-hater! Only to become the greatest evangelist in the history of Christendom! It would not sit well with me to give up on people too easily–how are we to know what plans God has for them? How do we know they may not be one of the chosen? Heck, we may not even know until they were on their death bed. I agree when you say that there are others who need our attention. But at LEAST we should not stop praying for those who have rejected the message.

    • I must correct on you on Paul- he was NOT a God hater. He loved God. He just didn’t believe that Jesus was the Messiah. He never met Jesus, nor saw him perform miracles. He thought it was all lies. He was persecuting Christians because he truly thought they were blaspheming God.

I am speaking to the general here. But I would agree that if the Holy Spirit moves you to speak, speak. To whomever He prods you to. While rejection might come from the mouth, the heart can still believe. I am speaking about those who have moved into true God hatred.

Again, though. Please don’t say that Paul hated God. He was merely mistaken about Jesus. THAT is why he so instantly believed Jesus when he came. Jesus came to him in all his glory and Paul became convinced he was the Messiah. BECAUSE he loved God and believed in the coming Messiah, he instantly received Jesus’ words.

      • Paul was present at the stoning of Stephen. (Acts 8:1) He was feared by Christians. We know this from the words from Ananias (Acts 9:13-14) as well as Paul’s own admission (Acts 22:4-5). He was zealously wrong. Saul’s fierce opposition came because of the Truth that was being proclaimed. So glad the Gospel was not compromised for temporary relief from persecution. Saul might have remained Saul rather than being transformed into the Apostle Paul. We are benefactors of those courageous early Church saints. Staying true to the message can get one stoned literally or verbally.

      • True Sharon. But he was no God hater. But he was zealously wrong about Christ. Paul was no atheist. My article addresses true atheists. They exist. And they are the swine Jesus spoke of.

  4. Thank you! We were just discussing this last night in our Bible study. Our pastor advised us to spread the Word, but if no one is listening, move on. I am also reminded that we are sometimes meant to plant seeds, even if we do not get to see the harvest reaped. We cannot stand over the plants and force them to grow!

  6. I must agree completely with you on this one, Susan. After all, sharing the gospel is compared by Jesus to a sower sowing seed. And how many times do you plant seed in one place?
